A Moment in Photographic History:
Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima is a historic photograph taken on February 23, 1945, by Joe Rosenthal. It depicts five United States Marines and a U.S. Navy corpsman raising the flag of the United States atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II.
This was the second raising of the flag that day. Earlier, Staff Sergeant Louis R. Lowery photographed the first raising of the flag. Rosenthal later photographed a re-enactment and won the Pulitzer Prize. Lowery photographed the original and won a little more time on the battleground.

A Photographic Quote of Note:
In photography, the smallest thing can be a great subject. The little human detail can become a Leitmotiv. — Henri Cartier-Bresson
