Viewing Life From a Safe Distance

The Wave

A Moment in Photographic History:
On November 23, 1936 the first issue of Life magazine was published. What was the first cover shot? Margaret Bourke-White‘s photograph of Fort Peck Dam.

A Photographic Quote of Note:
If anybody gets in my way when I’m making a picture, I become
irrational. I’m never sure what I‘m going to do–only that I want that
picture.

Beautiful how smooth that water is! Caught at the right moment!

A fine close up of this turbulent water…nicely captured. I liked the link to that first cove of Life. Our hobby and interest goes back to many great photographers who shot before us. No wonder it’s a challenge to come up with something new! :-)

Well, as far as I’m concerned this is one of the finest photo’s of water I’ve ever seen. It looks like liquid glass. What shutter speed did you use? Waterfalls should be shot with that shutter speed. Amazing, Michael, really amazing.

Awesome clarity of the surging waters. Very dramatic. Like the framing and contrasts of this shot too.
