A Moment in Photographic History:
On September 2, 1932 the f/64 Group was formed at Willard Van Dyke’s gallery at 683 Brockhurst in San Francisco, California, United States. The Founding members included Ansel Adams,Imogen Cunningham, John Paul Edwards, Sonya Noskowiak, Henry Swift, Willard Van Dyke, and Edward Weston. Part of their manifesto stated “The name of this Group is derived from a diaphragm number of the photographic lens. It signifies to a large extent the qualities of clearness and definition of the photographic image which is an important element in the work of members of this Group.”
A Photographic Quote of Note:
The camera should be used for a recording of life, for rendering the very substance and quintessence of the thing itself, whether it be polished steel or palpitating flesh.

  1. This polished steel helps us to have palpitating flesh !?

  2. interesting how you framed this. and the b&w is perfect. :)

  3. lol.. I really like your title and composition here.

  4. An interesting composition that leaves the thought something has been set free from a cage – and that I like. However I find humor in your caption too. Well done Michael!

  5. I’m about at f/5 in getting to the f/64 club and I may be being to kind to myself. Cool shot.

  6. Nice shot! Lots of contrast.

  7. Do you have to be a photographer to get it?

  8. Oh Lynne thank you…I am not alone! But we had a five minute discussion about the whole ball of wax and I still don’t get it?

  9. Well that sure is an informative title Mr R :-)

The comment about the possibility of something being set free strikes me as well.

I may be well off the mark, but it looks like the metal slats of a supermarket trolley, so I can imagine the food leaping to freedom. I’ll keep taking those pills but in the meantime, a terrific photograph which makes my silly singular brain cell start working
