Long before the first photographs were made, Ab? ‘Al? al-Hasan ibn al-Hasan ibn al-Haytham (965–1040) was born in the Arab city of Basra, Mesopotamia (Iraq), then part of the Buyid dynasty of Persia invented the camera obscura.
